    I hate Obirin.

I wish I could've taken a little crystal ball and seen into the future and known not to have applied to this shitty university. Don't get me wrong, I am enjoying my time in Japan but Obirin is the main road block on my way to happiness. I'm sure I'm developing stomach problems from my constant worrying about my Japanese class. When I contact my home university at the end of this semester I'm going to request that Obirin is not contacted again for study abroad because I would hate for someone else to go through a similar kind of hell with this inept University.

It's also easy to say the classes in English are nice. They're such a joke... they require the most minimal amount of effort to do well and it takes all of my will everyday to want to go to the classes. One of the history professors claims that he believes that he shouldn't lecture and uses other tactics to teach. I've been in this class since the very first day and I think he's only "lectured" twice. It's a history class!!!! People expect to hear a lecture... or at least learn some history. The class should be entitled... "whatever I feel like teaching today" because that's really all it is.

And now.. don't even get my started on Japanese.... fucking Sakana-san... he can't even teach us a whole lesson and Ikota-sensei has to make up for his defiencies and actually teach us the grammar.

Next semester I'm going to do the bare minimum... I'm going to take whatever Japanese class I'm assigned to take, and two more shitty extra classes. Anything just to fill up the minimum required hours and not do any work whatsoever. If Obirin is putting in no effort to actually teach the RJ's I won't put in any effort to be

To reiterate what was said in the first post of this journal

    End of the week frustration....
I went to speak to Batten on friday to speak about Usuda sensei's unbearable Japanese Cultural Exchange class, he was nice but that doesn't solve my problems. So I am here to ask everyone of you LJ users to help me out with this one. If you go to Obirins webpage: www.obirin.ac.jp on the home page you will see a little white and red box with a piece of paper looking thing coming out of it. This is the suggestion box that goes directly to the Vice Principle (who by the way can speak/read English perfectly) So as professionally as you can (I know we are all at our wits-ends with Obirn) tell him what exactly are wrong with the classes. For this to work I need everyone (well as many people as possible) to bombard him with e-mails. Imagine if every single RJ e-mailed in 1 complaint that would be 70 emails. I think he would sit up and take notice. Also if several people say the same thing about the same class that's even better. It means they will have to try and change it for next semester or at least next year. Also at the end of this semester we get evaluation sheets where we basically evaluate the classes. I am so looking forward to speaking my mind.... (well writing it I guess) I encourage you all to do the same.

Badgering does not help one learn
So Japanese 3 at Obirin is no piece of cake either. First of all, I spent a good three weeks arguing with the stupid Japanese language staff here at Obirin that I was in fact competent enough to be in the Japanese 3 class. But no..... the test says no your not, and how could the test possibly be wrong. Well, lets see for starters you throw a ridiculously impossible japanese test at us the first week of being here while we're still jet-lagged mind you, and after 3 month of not studying or using the language at all. Well duh... of course were not gonna to do well.

So after three weeks of arguing, complaining, and bitching, they finally give up I let me into 3, big deal, because I soon realized after that, that Japanese 3 teaches you absolutely nothing. I haven't learned a single new thing since coming here, all I have learned is how not to speak up in Yamashita's class because she'll tell me just how stupid I am and how I should be sent back to Japanese 1.

I don't need this, Japanese is hard enough without a crazy mean old lady telling you everyday how much you suck at it. I probably would have learned a hell of a lot more just studying on my own, but this teacher has me so down that I don't even want look at Japanese anymore.

I wish Godzilla would rise outta the ocean and eat her, yes that would make me very happy indeed.

I want to talk about my favorite teacher... Sakana-san. Sakana-san is lacking a few essential life skills and I still wonder how he ever got married. His classes are a total waste of time and he can't teach. One person in the 2a class has tried to speak out to one of the Obirin staff about Sakana-san and the next day he harassed the person in class about it.
Sakana-san is simply a fish out of water (and it's really obvious in the way he acts and looks... he kinda flops around) and I truly wish he would crawl back under the rock from which he came.

I hope all you 2A kids are ready for your "chisai F" on thursday!! Way to go moving too fast to actually learn the grammar points!!!

Maybe it would be best if Obirin got bombed...
So I have been meaning to set up this page for a while. I've been trying to grin and bear the terrible exchange program course at Obirin but today was the final straw. I don't really want to go into the details right now but if anyone reading this is considering doing an exchange program (in Japan) for a whole year, I highly recommend you don't choose Obirin.

Most people came with the idea that they were going to learn a lot about Japan but wherever you're from you'll learn more about Japan in your own country than being at Obirin and learning about Japan, in Japan.

If you choose to ignore my advice and go to Obirn anyway then I would strongly advise you NOT to take Japanese Cultural Exchange with Usuda Sensei.
First of all because its a cultural class its taught in English and not Japanese. I hear all of you saying "So whats the problem?"
Well, his English is so bad that you can't actually tell that he's speaking English.

To try and make up for the fact that his English is so bad he hands out loads of information in English. Again, I hear you saying "so whats the problem?" well he cuts and pastes paragraphs from loads of different books in no particular order what so ever so that when you read it and try and understand the content you have no clue what you're supposed to have gained from it.

Everyday I wish for Obirin to get bombed. If Obirin got bombed it would be doing everyone a favour. The teachers could get proper, worthwhile jobs whilst the students could probably learn more Japanese and more about Japan without Obirins interference.

It was still standing today but theres always tommorrow....
